Vijayawada to host Khelo India Swimming Series

Vijayawada will be hosting the Khelo India Junior Women’s Swimming Series Round-1 (zonal competition) from January 20 to 21. The competitions will be held at Sir Vizzy Municipal Corporation Swimming Pool at Gandhinagar. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has assigned the conduct of the tournament to the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Aquatic Association (APAAA).
APAAA secretary A Mohan Venkat Ram, in a press release issued here on Thursday, said that swimmers from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Puducherry States will be participating in the tournament. Women swimmers who have attained the age of 15 are eligible to participate in the open swimming championship, he added.
Free Style (100 Mt, 200 Mt, 400 Mt), Back Stroke (100 and 200 Mt), Breast Stroke (100 and 200 Mt), Butterfly (100 and 200 Mt) and Individual Medley 200 Mts events will be conducted. No swimmer is permitted to participate in more than three events.
Only Individual Medley is permitted as an additional event, i.e. the fourth event.
Those who bag first to fifth places will be presented with cash prizes ranging from Rs.2,000 to Rs.6,000 in each event. There will be no entry fee, he added.
