Members of a joint action committee staged a protest on Tuesday against the proposed establishment of an ethanol manufacturing plant in Dilawarpur mandal.
The protesters, including local residents and women, blocked traffic for nearly three hours, causing significant inconvenience to motorists. They raised slogans denouncing the government’s approval for the factory in their village and demanded that it be relocated, expressing concerns that the factory would poison their farmlands.
The protest disrupted traffic on the Nirmal-Bhainsa road, bringing it to a standstill. Police swiftly arrived at the scene and held discussions with the demonstrators, assuring them that the issue would be brought to the attention of the government. After receiving this assurance, the protesters called off their demonstration and allowed traffic to resume.
Locals have been strongly opposed to the establishment of the ethanol plant in Gundampalli village, citing fears of environmental pollution and its potential to disrupt their livelihoods. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) was formed to prevent the factory from being set up, and the community has been staging various protests over the past year.
