District Collector Dr A Mallikarjuna inaugurated a cutting-edge Gastroenterology Department and Burns Ward at Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) on Wednesday. The newly established facilities, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, were unveiled at a cost of Rs 2 crore. Dr. Mallikarjuna commended the ongoing efforts to improve medical services at VIMS. He highlighted the government’s commitment to this initiative, citing the recent recruitment of essential medical personnel, which has resulted in a substantial increase in both outpatient and inpatient services.
Featuring modern equipment and staffed by experienced specialists, the new Gastroenterology Department is fully equipped to conduct a comprehensive range of gastroenterology-related procedures and diagnostic tests. With financial backing from the government and generous contributions from the Indian Oil Corporation, advanced medical equipment valued at Rs. 53 lakh have been procured, enhancing the efficiency of gastroenterological surgeries and tests.
VIMS has further expanded its services with the establishment of a dedicated Burns Ward. Equipped with 18 beds and advanced facilities, this ward specifically caters to patients suffering from burn injuries of less than 40 percent. Dr. Mallikarjun emphasised the critical role such specialised units play in providing effective treatment for burn victims.
Dr Mallikarjuna reiterated that all surgeries and medical services offered at VIMS are provided free of charge under the Aarogyasri healthcare initiative. He lauded VIMS for its invaluable contribution to the well-being of the residents of Uttar Andhra, comparing it to a corporate hospital in terms of its service standards.
