This week, at the box office, three films have had a tug of war. Of the three films, Gangs of Godavari is one of the most ambitious films that actor Vishwak Sen is releasing. Directed by Krishna Chaitanya, the film stars actress Anjali and Neha Sshetty play female leads.
Bankrolled by S Naga Vamsi, the film has now hit cinemas. Ahead of the film’s release, actor Vishwak Sen, renowned for his dynamic on-screen presence, opened up about his experience portraying the lead character in Gangs of Godavari with us in a quick interview. He shared, “When I signed on for Gangs of Godavari, I anticipated a film catering primarily to the youth. However, upon viewing the first cut, I realised its broader appeal transcends age groups. This film doesn’t rely on vulgarity or cringe-worthy moments. While some may find certain dialogues in the trailer distracting, one’s perception of a film is shaped by their individual taste and perspective on life.”
The actor also delved into the evolving landscape of Telugu cinema, drawing parallels with global cinematic trends as he expressed, “There’s been a lot of buzz about Telugu cinema’s global reach. Audiences today appreciate raw, unfiltered storytelling akin to classics like The Godfather and Scarface, or popular series like Game of Thrones. Gangs Of Godavari too embraces this ethos, featuring an intense pre-intermission fight devoid of slow motion or bombastic background scores. It’s a calculated risk, but filmmaking is about pushing boundaries and evolving with the times.”
Reflecting on his portrayal of the Godavari slang, he emphasised, “I was particularly mindful of nailing the Godavari dialect. I wanted to ensure my performance felt genuine and avoided any criticism. Having seen the film, I believe I’ve done justice to the role and will not disappoint. I refuse to be pigeonholed as a Telangana actor. Gangs Of Godavari marks a pivotal moment in Telugu cinema, and I say this with confidence after a recent screening.”
He also hinted at the potential for a sequel as he spilled, “While a sequel is on the cards, unlike Hit, I’ll be reprising the lead role. Gangs Of Godavari isn’t just a standalone film; it’s the beginning of an enduring cinematic journey.”
As anticipation mounts for its release, Gangs Of Godavari promises to redefine Telugu cinema, driven by Vishwak Sen’s transformative performance and a narrative that transcends conventional boundaries.
