Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu on Monday announced that morning flight services between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada will resume from June 1. The move is aimed at enhancing intra-state air connectivity and is expected to benefit business travellers, government officials, and frequent flyers between Andhra Pradesh’s commercial and administrative capitals.
Minister Naidu told the media that the reintroduction of the route reflects the Centre’s commitment to strengthening regional air links and facilitating quicker travel between emerging urban centres. IndiGo Airlines will operate the service using an ATR aircraft. The flight will depart Vijayawada at 7:15 a.m. and arrive in Visakhapatnam at 8:25 a.m. The return leg will depart Visakhapatnam at 8:45 a.m., reaching Vijayawada by 9:50 a.m.
Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for restoring the vital service.
“This route is key to boosting economic cooperation, tourism, and administrative coordination between the two cities,” he said, adding that further efforts are being made to strengthen Visakhapatnam’s air connectivity with metropolitan centres.
K. Vijay Mohan, president of the Tour and Travels Association of Andhra and the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Forum, also welcomed the development. “We appreciate the resumption of this morning service and urge the Minister to also consider reviving the Bangkok route via AirAsia, which is crucial for tourism and trade,” he said.
The announcement has been widely welcomed by business leaders, travel operators, and regular commuters, who see it as a timely step towards improving regional infrastructure and mobility.
