Vijayawada: Traffic between Vijayawada and Hyderabad has come to a standstill due to continuous heavy rains over the past two days. Flooding has occurred on the highways, with several streams and ponds breaching their banks and causing water to overflow onto the roads, leading to significant traffic disruptions. The persistent rainfall has severely impacted the region, submerging many villages, disrupting road transport, and flooding low-lying residential areas, resulting in considerable hardships for residents.
The heavy rainfall has severed road connections between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Chimiryala Lake, situated on the AP-Telangana border, is currently inundated near Ramapuram village. Additionally, rainwater has overflowed onto the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway near Nallabandagudem village, causing a massive traffic jam near the interstate checkpost. Floodwaters have also spilt onto the National Highway near Ithavaram village in the Nandigama mandal, halting transportation on the highway. Consequently, the RTC has suspended bus services between Vijayawada and Hyderabad temporarily. The disruption has left many people stranded, as railway services are also affected due to tracks being washed away near the Mahabubabad-Warangal railway station.
