Ward system to help solve administrative problems in city

Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi said that Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has implemented ward system across the city to provide better administration to the people. On Thursday, Mayor Vijayalakshmi, along with GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board MD Dana Kishore started a training programme for the ward officers at the GHMC headquarters.

Speaking on this occasion, Mayor Vijayalakshmi said that following the vision of the Minister of Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao, one ward is being established for a population of 50,000. As part of this, the ward system will work with the aim of providing information to the complainant by taking prompt action on the complaints received from the public. She said that the authorities concerned will look into the problems of drinking water, sewerage, sanitation, town planning etc at the ward level and work hard to solve the problem based on the citizen’s chart.

She said that the officials should listen carefully to the problems of citizens, collect applications and take immediate steps to resolve the problems. She said that the officials should fulfill the goals of the government with a positive attitude, patience, transparency and accountability. Ward-level officials should be available to corporators and public representatives. On this occasion, the Mayor unveiled the rule book related to ward administration.

GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar said that by establishing the ward system, it will be possible to solve the public problems coming from all corners of the city very easily and quickly. He said that the GHMC departments such as Biodiversity, Health, Sanitation, Town Planning, Ward Engineer, Entomology, Water Works, Electricity and Community will work in the ward offices. He said that people need not go to the head office and circle zonal offices to express their problems but come to the ward office and then the officials will thoroughly examine and solve their problems.

He said that most of the complaints are coming on sanitation, town planning and engineering departments. Ward-level staff should first visit the ward in the morning and work to solve the problems of the people. Everyone should be in the ward office from 3 pm to 5 pm. The matter should be forwarded to the concerned authority and the matter should be conveyed to the complainant after the problem is resolved, he said.
