Water level in Kolleru Lake on the rise, several villages inundated

Several villages in the Eluru district were inundated by the flood water and several other villages are facing inundation threat.
The water level in Kolleru Lake is increasing alarmingly as the flood of Budameru, Ramileru and Tammileru rivulets which damaged the national highway is reaching Kolleru Lake. This is the first time in four decades that Kolleru Lake received such a huge quantity of flood water, he stated.
The hyacinth spread in the canals and streams inhibiting the flow of water, resulting in the water gushing into villages and colonies, the villagers told the media. The floodwater gushed into Komatilanka, Gudivada Lanka, Prathikollalanka, Paidichinta-padu, Sriparru, Maheshwaram and Kalakurru villages. The flood water also entered into the fish ponds at the villages causing huge losses to the aqua farmers. r.
Moreover, Mandavalli, Kovvada Lanka, Takkellapadu, Prathipadu, Pillipadu and Atapaka villages are facing inundation threats as the flood water is increasing. The vehicular traffic on the Kaikalu-Eluru was suspended as flood water overflowed on the road.
Eluru Range IGP GVG Ashok Kumar and district SP Pratap Shiva Kumar visited some of the flood-hit areas on Sunday and directed the officials to shift people from low-lying areas.   The floodwater of Budameru rivulet, after wreaking havoc in Vijayawada, started inundating many villages in the Eluru district. IGP Ashok Kumar and SP Shiva Kumar visited some of the areas at Edlapadu village in Eluru rural mandal.
Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said that people living in low-lying areas should be moved to safer areas and infrastructure should be provided in the relief centres with revenue assistance. All the flood waters of Budameru, Tammileru, Ramileru flood and other streams merge in Kollert Lake. The water should merge in the Upputeru stream but not merging inhibition of flow by hyacinth creeper, the IG added.  
Meanwhile, Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar also visited some of the flood-hit areas on Sunday. He visited Koniki, S Kottapalli and Kadimikunta villages in Pedapadu mandal.  He went to the villages on a tractor driving the vehicle himself.  He interacted with the villagers and assured them of extending all needed help.  
The MLA told the villagers that 25 kg of rice, one packet of edible oil, one-litre of milk, two kg of potato and two kg of onions are being distributed to the flood victims. The MLA told the cattle rears that 200 MT of fodder is being brought from other districts and that would be distributed to the cattle rears in the flood-hit areas here.  Later the MLA also spoke to the IGP and SP.
