In response to the ongoing summer heat, the Andhra Pradesh government has released water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Right Canal from Thursday afternoon to replenish local tanks and meet drinking water requirements, announced Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu.

The minister stated that water would be supplied to 447 drinking water tanks located across the districts of Palnadu, Guntur, Bapatla, and Prakasam—areas within the command region of the Right Canal. He emphasised that the water should be used strictly for drinking purposes and instructed officials from the Irrigation, Revenue, and Rural Water Supply (RWS) departments to coordinate the supply accordingly.

Minister Ramanaidu further noted that following a three-crop holiday, the government had successfully provided irrigation water to the Nagarjuna Sagar command area, resulting in a good harvest. He added that the administration is now systematically addressing the region’s drinking water needs through a well-planned initiative.
