Water will be released from Srisailam project based on availability: Minister

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy has said that water will be released from the Srisailam project to the irrigation canals based on availability of water in the project.

Combined Kurnool district Irrigation advisory board meeting was held on Wednesday in which SB Amzath Basha, Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, Labour minister Gummanur Jayaram and Collector Dr.Manajeer Jilani participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy said that depending on the availability of water in Srisailam reservoir, water for Kurnool and Nandyal districts for Kharif season, would be released through various irrigation canals as per the permission of the government.

The minister said that the government would take to the government the matter proposed by the members to draw the water from the Srisailam reservoir through Pothireddypadu head regulator. Based on the inflows from the Almatti, Narayanpur and Jurala projects, water would be released to the irrigation canals, he asserted.

The Minister directed the engineering authorities to take steps to release water to the KC Canal, the Telugu Ganga and the SRBC canals equally and utilize the water for drinking purpose as well for irrigation.

Minister Rajendranath Reddy suggested that steps should be taken to ensure that the water in the Tungabhadra lower canal is maintained continuously. Steps should also be taken to release water to the Siddapuram Lift Irrigation only when there is 10 tmcs of water in the Velugodu Balancing Reservoir, the minister told the officials. He also directed engineering officials to immediately release water from the Shiva Bhashyam Sagar project.

Collector M Jilani Samoon directed the minor engineering officials to identify the irrigation tanks which required repairs and prepare proposals. He said that a committee was set up to study and to submit a report on the effluents being discharged into the Kundu River by the industries. The committee submitted the report which was sent to the government, the Collector added. He directed the agriculture officials to sensitize the farmers to raise their crop depending on the availability of water resources.

MP P Brahmananda Reddy said that steps should be taken to release water to the Kundu River while MLA Shilpa Chakrapani Reddy said that if water is released to the SRBC that would be useful to the farmers to raise crops. He also urged for the construction of a bridge across the Maddileru stream. MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy said that 9 tmc of water went wasted as needed repairs were not carried out to the bunds and he urged the officials to send proposals to the government to carry out repairs to the bunds. He also urged the Finance Minister to release funds for the same.

ZP Chairman Errabotula Papireddy, Kurnool District Collector Dr.G.Srujana, MLC Ishaq Basha, MLC Ramachandra Reddy, MLAs Katasani Rambhupal Reddy, Togur Arthur, MLA Brijendranath Reddy and other leaders and officials were present.
