Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress government in Telangana has been working for the welfare of all sections of society during the last eight months.
Leading the 78th Independence Day celebrations in Suryapet on Thursday, Uttam Kumar Reddy unfurled the national flag, took the salute at the Guard of Honour, and paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the freedom movement.
In his address, Uttam Kumar Reddy outlined the Congress government’s comprehensive and targeted initiatives, emphasising that the administration is not just about rhetoric but action. “We are here to deliver results, not just promises,” he declared, highlighting the government’s mission to ensure that development touches even the most marginalised communities.
“One of the most compelling aspects of our governance is our relentless focus on the welfare of the poor,” Uttam Kumar Reddy proclaimed. He highlighted the Indiramma Housing Scheme and the Mahalakshmi Gas Subsidy Scheme as flagship programmes that reflect the government’s commitment to uplifting the economically disadvantaged. “Under the Indiramma Housing Scheme, we are not just planning; we are building 450,000 houses. As many as 3,500 houses are earmarked per constituency. We are turning dreams into reality, ensuring every poor individual in the state has the chance to own a home,” he asserted.
He delivered a pointed critique of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, contrasting its policies with those of the Congress government. “While the BJP increased cooking gas prices from Rs 400 in 2014 to over Rs 1,200 in 2024, the Congress government in Telangana is standing by the poor, providing cooking gas at a subsidised rate of Rs 500 per cylinder. In Suryapet district alone, nearly 148000 individuals have benefited. This is not just a subsidy; it’s a lifeline,” he said.
Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasised that the government’s commitment to welfare is evident in its targeted interventions, such as the Gruha Jyoti Scheme, which provides free electricity to consumers using up to 200 units. “We are ensuring that basic amenities like electricity are not a luxury but a right for every citizen. This is governance that truly serves the people,” he affirmed.
