Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that the Congress government would be servants of the public and not rulers of the people.
The new Telangana Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, took charge at the Secretariat on Thursday. After taking oath at the LB Stadium, he, along with other Ministers, reached the Secretariat and took charge in his office on the sixth floor.
Addressing people after the swearing-in, Revanth said that the Congress government would be a people’s government. “We are not rulers. We are servants of the people,” he said.
He recalled that the Telangana state was formed due to the sacrifices of the people and the determination of Sonia Gandhi to allow a long-pending demand of the TS people.
He said the people of Telangana had many dreams at the time of state formation but in the last 10 years, their dreams could not be fulfilled.
Stating that in the last 10 years, the people of Telangana silently suffered under an autocratic rule, he said that the iron fencing in front of the Chief Minister’s official residence, Pragathi Bhavan, was removed by his government immediately after taking over.
He also announced the renaming of Pragathi Bhavan as ‘Jyotirao Phule Praja Bhavan’ and said that a praja durbar would be held at the Praja Bhavan at 10 am on Friday.
He assured the people that he would try to solve their problems like a son or as a brother.
Revanth said that Telangana will now usher in Indiramma Rajyam, and ensure social justice and inclusive development.
He promised to do justice to students, the unemployed and the families of martyrs. Revanth said the government would try to ensure both welfare and development.
Soon after taking oath as Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy signed two files, the first file regarding the implementation of the six guarantees given by the Congress to the people of Telangana.
The second file he signed was intended to fulfil a promise he had made during the election campaign to a woman named Rajini who suffers from dwarfism. The promise was to give Rajini her first job, if the Congress came to power.
Rajini was specially invited on Thursday. The Chief Minister signed orders giving her a government job and handed it over to her.
At the Secretariat accompanied by his wife, Revanth Reddy conducted puja amid the chanting of Vedic hymns by a group of priests. When he occupied the CM’s chair, the priests blessed him. Later, he signed files brought in by Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and other top officials. Earlier, Secretariat employees accorded a warm welcome to Revanth Reddy. After the Congress stormed to power, Revanth announced that the doors of the Secretariat would be open to everyone.
The new Secretariat complex, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities was inaugurated on April 30. Former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao inaugurated the complex by occupying a chair in his chambers on the sixth floor and signing some files.
