Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in his addresses at election rallies held in Chodavaram, Ambajipeta, P Gannavaram, and Ponnur on Monday, emphasised the importance of continuing the State’s welfare schemes that benefit all sections of society. He expressed doubt that if Chandrababu Naidu were to return to power, these vital programmes would be jeopardised.
Reflecting on the aftermath of the State’s bifurcation, CM Jagan highlighted how Hyderabad was initially designated as the joint capital for a decade. However, due to Chandrababu Naidu’s entanglement in the cash-for-vote scandal, this arrangement was disrupted, lamented CM Jagan.
CM Jagan underscored the failure of Naidu’s administration to secure special category status for the state, despite assurances given to the electorate. He warned against placing trust in promises that are unlikely to materialize, likening it to courting danger.
He urged the electorate to consider the repercussions of supporting an opposition that he characterized as anti-poor.
Drawing attention to the unfulfilled pledges of the previous regime, CM Jagan cited examples such as the promised unemployment benefit of Rs 2000, a farm loan waiver of Rs 87,612 crores, and the retrieval of pledged gold from banks. He reminded the audience of the disillusionment that followed Naidu’s victory in 2014, emphasising the need for accountability.
CM Jagan further criticised Naidu’s neglect of Visakhapatnam’s potential and his proposal to relocate the capital, labelling it as a missed opportunity. He pointed out the failure of Naidu’s ambitious plans, including the proposed graphical Rajadhani, as evidence of his administration’s shortcomings.
Addressing the crowd in Ambajipeta, CM Jagan termedthe upcoming election as a decisive battle between the interests of the poor and the habitual deceit of Chandrababu Naidu. He contrasted Naidu’s record of unfulfilled promises with his administration’s accomplishments, emphasizing the stark difference between rhetoric and action.
Asserting his resolve to confront the opposition alliance led by Naidu, CM Jagan highlighted the diverse forces aligned against his party. He portrayed the opposition as consisting of disparate elements, including Naidu’s adopted son Pawan Kalyan, biased regional media, and politically insignificant parties.
In Ponnur, CM Jagan continued his criticism of Naidu’s governance, accusing him of failing to deliver on promises outlined in the 2014 manifesto. He challenged Naidu’s credibility by highlighting his inability to substantiate claims of progress with tangible achievements.
CM Jagan reiterated his commitment to social justice, citing the composition of his cabinet and the allocation of legislative seats to marginalised communities. He contrasted this with the lack of inclusivity during Naidu’s tenure, positioning his party as the champion of equity and representation.
