In a bold challenge to Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Animal Husbandry Minister Dr Seediri Appalaraju has demanded accountability for Naidu’s 14-year administration in Uttarandhra region during the TDP’s rule. Dr Appalaraju affirmed their readiness to engage in discussions regarding Naidu’s governance track record, labelling his tenure as a period of dismal governance that failed to yield substantial benefits for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking at a press conference held in Vijayawada on Tuesday, Dr Appalaraju criticised Naidu’s attempt to seek public support anew, highlighting the inadequacies of his past governance. He emphasized that Naidu’s administration had severely lagged in developing Uttarandhra, accusing Naidu and other TDP leaders of resorting to mudslinging and criticism against Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership. Dr Appalaraju questioned the efficacy of Naidu’s governance model, particularly referencing the controversial Janmabhoomi Committees, which he argued contributed significantly to the TDP’s defeat in 2019.
Dr. Appalaraju outlined Jagan’s volunteer system and the establishment of village and ward secretariats as exemplars of good governance, emphasizing their non-partisan and inclusive approach to administration. He underscored the success of these initiatives in reducing poverty rates in the state to less than 5 per cent, contrasting it with the 11.5 per cent poverty rate during Naidu’s tenure and the national average of 11 per cent.
Critiquing Naidu’s electoral promises, Dr Appalaraju challenged the former Chief Minister’s pledge to create 20 lakh jobs over five years, questioning the actual fulfilment of such commitments during Naidu’s prolonged stint in power. He asserted Jagan’s efforts in generating government employment and facilitating job opportunities through contracting and outsourcing, positioning Jagan as a champion of the underprivileged compared to Naidu’s perceived alignment with the affluent.
Furthermore, Dr Appalaraju demanded accountability from Naidu regarding the Uddanam kidney ailment crisis, attributing failures in addressing the issue during Naidu’s tenure. He predicted a decisive end to Naidu’s political career, asserting that the forthcoming election would mark the end of Naidu’s relevance in Andhra Pradesh politics.
With just 40 days remaining until the election, Dr Appalaraju confidently asserted the impending conclusion of Naidu’s political tenure, signalling a shift in the state’s political landscape.
