Will KCR contest from Gajwel or change his constituency?

Must read

Will Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar contest from Gajwel or not? Some comments of Finance Minister T. Harish Rao, political circles and BRS leaders have created this doubt.

KCR may contest from some another constituency and not from Gajwel, some BRS circles said. As part of the Atmiya Sammelana programme Finance Minister T. Harish Rao conducted a meeting two days ago with party workers at Gajwel which is represented by KCR.

Addressing party workers Harish said, “There are many leaders asking KCR to contest from their district. BRS workers thought that the Finance Minister will tell them that KCR will contest from Gajwel again and will develop the constituency. But in spite of that Harish’s comments indicate that KCR may not contest from Gajwel.”

In fact, in BRS circles for a long time, there were speculations that KCR may contest from a new constituency. The reason is that if KCR contests from a constituency where the BRS is weak it will have an impact on nearby Assembly constituencies and that will help the BRS to win more constituencies.

The Assembly elections are very crucial to the BRS and personally for KCR who wants to enter national politics. BRS circles think that if KCR contests from a constituency where the BJP has winning chances he can defeat the BJP not only in that constituency but also in nearby constituencies too.

But some close associates of the CM have expressed fear over changing constituency. They think that if KCR changes constituency it can prove dangerous. Some BRS sections think that it is not safe for the BRS and KCR to conduct experiments during the coming Assembly elections.

They remember what happened to former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao. NTR was defeated in the Kalwakurthy Assembly constituency in the 1989 Assembly elections by Congress leader J. Chittaranjan Das and he became a giant killer.

After almost 10 years in power, the BRS is facing a tough challenge from the opposition and if KCR changes constituency opposition parties may join hands to defeat him, a BRS leader said.
