New reforms in cooperative sector to provide quality services to farmers

The Minister for Agricultural, Marketing, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries, K Atchannaidu, has stated that the government will be launching an investigation into the multi-crore scam that took place in the District Cooperative Central Banks (DCCBs) of Eluru, Kakinada, Guntur, Srikakulam, and Chittoor, as well as in several Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS). He emphasised that after confirming the irregularities and corruption, appropriate action will be taken against those responsible as per the law.

In a press release here on Wednesday, Minister Atchannaidu stated that his government will be cleansing the cooperative system in the State. The cooperative system should be used for the overall development of the farmers; however, during the past five years, the system was marred by corruption and irregularities. Many pick-pockets entered the cooperative sector. As a result, it lost its accountability, he said.

“The District Cooperative Central Banks of Eluru, Kakinada, Guntur, Srikakulam and Chittoor and many other PACS have faced severe corruption allegations. Our government will conduct a probe into these allegations and corruption accounts. Also, stringent action will be taken against individuals who were involved in corruption,” he said. Also, he stated that his government should put the cooperative system in a groove.

Meanwhile, he said the State government will bring new reforms to the cooperative sector to provide quality services to the farmers under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The previous YSRCP government nominated ‘Three Men Committees’ for the PACSs and DCCBs. As a result, they colluded with some of the corrupt officials. The TDP government will streamline the entire system, he added.
