Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Wednesday unveiled GMR Airport’s AI-powered digital twin, namely Airport Predictive Operations Centre (APOC) and invited the GMR team to further develop it for all other airports which can be viewed by the Civil Aviation Ministry.
Speaking at the inaugural, Ram Mohan Naidu said, “We wanted to have this kind of system where we can observe all the airports that are there in the country for us. We are not really into the operations much, but when we create those policies, it is very important for us to get in this real-time data to see each and every airport at a click of a button on what is happening there. Now we have the lead to go ahead and I want to get in touch with the GMR team to make it successful.”
Appreciating the various initiatives that GMR Hyderabad Airport specifically has taken like the e-boarding system, Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said, “The Hyderabad Airport has seen the highest passenger growth in the country from about 6.5 million passengers in 2010 to 25 million passengers in 2024, reflecting a growth of almost four times. The number of flights has jumped from 220 per day to more than 550 flights per day during the same period, which is quite remarkable growth.”
SGK Kishore, ED – South and Chief Innovation Officer, GMR Airports said, “New AI-enabled digital platform and the Airport Predictive Operation Centre (APOC) consists of five islands and it integrates alerts in the new system. It will manage the crowd and optimise passenger flow and security, reducing congestion and enhancing safety.”
These tools improve terminal operations by boosting throughput, reducing wait times, and minimising missed flights. Gate usage and dwell times are achieved through continuous monitoring, improving overall efficiency, he added.
