Minister for Civil Supplies Nadendla Manohar Nadendla Manohar has said that 2.30 lakh Metric Tonnes of paddy produce would be purchased from the farmers in East Godavari district in the kharif season.
Minister Nadendla Manohar inaugurated a paddy purchase centre at Kapavaram on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he made it clear that the government had taken steps to launch a single window system to resolve the issues of farmers and protect their interest.
“We have set up purchase centers in 220 Rythu Seva Kendras in East Godavari district. We are taking up the purchase of 2,30,000 metric tons of paddy produce in the district, and if necessary, we will purchase 3 lakh MT of paddy. We disburse money to the farmers within 48 hours of purchasing their paddy produce,” Manahor asserted.
The Civil Supplies Minister said: “As many as 5.50 lakh farmers raised crops in the kharif season and the government has taken steps to protect their interests. The government is setting up 3,400 RSK to purchase paddy produce from the farmers. The government has set a target of purchasing 32.50 lakh metric tonnes of paddy through purchase centres in the kharif season.”
Minister Nadendla Manohar highlighted that Rs 1,674 worth payments were made to the farmers for their paddy produce which was purchased by the government. Nadendla Manohar lamented that over 2,800 tenant farmers had committed suicide during the last five years.
The erstwhile YSRCP government had borrowed Rs 45,500 crore giving the income of Civil Supplies department as surety, he lashed out. The rice millers were instructed to purchase paddy from the farmers by paying MSP without the interference of mediators.
The Millers have come forward to purchase paddy produce which contains 17 to 22 percent moisture; he said and appreciated the millers. Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, MLAs Adireddy Srinivas, Collector P Prashanthi and Civil Supplies MD Sudhir and members of rice millers association were among those who were present.
