G Koteswara Rao, the Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate for the Vijayawada West Assembly constituency, has stated that those elected to public office should not be defaulters in terms of loans to banks, nor should they loot money from those who are constructing houses. He has assured voters that if elected, he will strive for the overall development of the Vijayawada West constituency.
G Koteswara Rao is contesting for the Vijayawada West segment with the support of the INDIA bloc parties CPM and the Congress. Attending the ‘Meet the Press’, organised by the APUWJ Krishna Urban and Vijayawada Press Club on Monday, he pointed out that his rivals are Yalamanchili Satyanarayana Chowdary alias Sujana Chowdary from the ruling BJP at the Centre and Sk Asif from the ruling YSRCP in the State.
He also alleged that the State bifurcation assurances, such as Special Category Status, Backward Districts Development Fund, Railway Zone, and Rs.15 lakh credit to the people’s bank accounts, have not been fulfilled.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have announced that they would not implement four per cent reservations for Muslims. BJP candidate Sujana Chowdary should clarify his attitude on Muslim reservations,” he said.
Koteswara Rao added that TDP, JSP and YSRCP are making allegations against one another in the State, but all these parties are slaves to the BJP at the Centre. He added that there is a need to protect secular, democratic, and constitutional values in the country.
He alleged that the previous TDP government and the present YSRCP government hiked prices of all essential goods, including petrol and diesel. During the past 58 months, the YSRCP government imposed additional burdens on the people by collecting True Up charges and increased taxes in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.
The government collects taxes even on garbage, he complained.
Finally, he urged the people to vote for the INDIA bloc candidates in Vijayawada. He listed out his priorities for the development of Vijayawada if elected, and emphasised that development of the city was the key objective. The Opposition TDP failed to bring the Special Category Status when it was a part of the NDA government. The INDIA bloc is committed to sanctioning the SCS for the State and will sign first on this announcement, he added.
Vijayawada Press Club president K Jaya Raju, secretary D Naga Raju, APUWJ State general secretary Chandu Janardhan, Vijayawada Urban president Chava Ravi, senior leader Shaik Babu, and others were present.
