Students from Andhra Pradesh have won the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC) that was held in April in the USA. The six-member winning team from India comprised two AP students — Sai Akshara Vemuri (12th grade) and Akarsh Chittineni (10th grade). The team won the Social Media Award in the under-19 category in the NASA HERC Rover Challenge-2023.

The competition featured 61 teams from 30 countries around the world, and included 45 colleges and universities and 16 high schools. This award recognises the team’s exceptional communication skills and efforts to involve and educate the public about STEM activities. The team utilised social media platforms to share their progress with NASA and engage with a wider audience to inspire the next generation.

The duo was felicitated by the APNRTS officials on Wednesday for their achievement. On the occasion, they told the media persons that the win brought recognition to their team, and also brought pride to the State of Andhra Pradesh and the entire country.

APNRTS congratulated the Indian students, especially those from AP, and said they were looking forward to seeing their future accomplishments. “We hope that this achievement serves as a stepping stone to many more opportunities and accomplishments in the years to come for local and NRI children of A.P origin,” the officials said.
