‘With Hero Heroine, we want to express disapproval of celebs and people abandoning their spouses’

Producer Prerna Arora, who aims to raise awareness of important issues and subjects in society, gets candid with
The Pioneer about her upcoming project Hero Heroine, theme of the
film, and more.

Through her productions, producer Prerna Arora aims to raise awareness of important issues and subjects in society. Therefore, it is imperative that she is aware of the critical role she can play in upholding morals and values in society, and she is well-versed in it. In general, people in India like viewing movies in their free time. “While we may forget some, there are others that leave a long-lasting impact on us,” claims the producer of the upcoming bilingual movie titled Hero Heroine.
She has made investments in stories that are set all around the world and frequently center on issues such as infidelity, different national circumstances, army exodus, and more. The Pioneer interacted with the actor-turned-producer over the phone for today’s feature column. We discussed representing many taboo themes, bringing her unique experience to the screen, and her casting approach. She says with a happy note, “I was in Chennai when I heard the story. As a producer, I am now only interested in presenting movies that have a powerful message when I take on new projects. We are trying to convey a ‘Don’t Cheat’ message through Hero Heroine. I observe a lot of famous couples overindulging in their transient relationships. The film industry is the foundation of our entire project.”
As the co-producer of movies like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Rustom, she connects the dots with us regarding the theme of her film on an even deeper level and reveals, “There was so much depth in the love stories of the actors of our 80s. They lacked the flexibility to end relationships as quickly as we do in modern times. These days, there’s a lot of noise. In our industry, relationships are not grasped correctly. They are clearly not happy, and it seems like they are merely attempting to live a fake existence. This now sends the erroneous message to internet users, which is what is the movie’s context.”
Prerna acknowledged that she is aware on the inside that the PRs of the same celebrities provide tip-offs to the paparazzi when we brought up the paparazzi’s involvement in helping to ease the disturbance she is talking about. The way the media operates these days has made it into a fashion. Everybody on the internet is awaiting their favorite celebrity’s one paparazzi photo! She claims that since the stars have attained that level, they don’t care; instead, the online community will be impacted. She advises outsiders to concentrate on acting and not take the paparazzi culture too seriously. This is what’s going to happen! The celebrity clan is not something she opposes, but it is becoming excessive.
She goes on to reiterate the strong claim made in the teaser: “The movie is about infatuation. We want to express our disapproval of celebrities and people in general who abandon their wives due to a crush on fellow actors. It was the correct decision for me to work with filmmaker Suresh, who has already collaborated with A-list actors like Kamal Haasan or Khushbu Sundar. Because he is skilled at using sarcasm to make his points without coming across as offensive.” As a producer, she prefers her films to have a somewhat larger mass so that a greater number of moviegoers will be able to identify with them. She desires dialogues to take place. “I see a complete conversation surrounding Ram Mandir. Given that’s our culture, why do we engage in so many things that are westernised? You are free to judge me as you choose; I have a pretty traditional mindset. I think highly of the movies directed by YRF, Dharma, and Rajshri. The family culture has always been emphasised by these producing companies. Case in point, Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani. Even if it isn’t traditional, it popularized family culture in a way that is quite up to date. This is how my next film will be, too,” the producer added.
This is her first time working on a glitzy movie with a leading man from Telugu. It is highly likely that he will immediately become the poster child for virtue upon the film’s premiere! “The selection of films in which I invest is a fully deliberate decision. I want my viewers to learn something from Hero Heroine as well. Additionally, choosing these kinds of films is never easy because they deal with sensitive topics. We’re not sure how this will be received! It’s also true that I am a producer in this mostly male-dominated world, and my success has come naturally to me. I have witnessed defeat in Fanney Khan with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but women never give up. Women were the most supportive of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which proved it!”

As a responsible producer, to know more about the thought process, she gives her two cents on the on-going debate about the movie Animal. She said, “Regarding the film Animal, which is currently engulfed in controversy, I believe that the parts that are causing the most controversy were actually demands made by the screenplay. Since I was raised in a patriarchal environment, most of the movie’s assertions are accurate. Ranbir Kapoor isn’t incorrect just because he plays a character in the movie; it was his autonomous decision based on the storyline. All of it is fiction, and the movie’s success has been largely attributed to its audience. Thus, we need to consider it.”
