In a tragic incident, a young woman was killed in a road accident just a few hours before her engagement function, and her brother was critically injured at Venkata Reddy Palli village in Tadipatri mandal on Saturday night.
CI Shiva Gangadhar Reddy told the media that the deceased woman, Geetha (24), was a software engineer working in Bangalore. Her engagement was scheduled for Sunday morning. Geetha had gone to a neighbouring village to get ‘mehndi’ done ahead of the ceremony. While returning on a bike with her brother, a speeding tractor collided with their vehicle, killing Geetha instantly. Her brother, Narayana Reddy, was critically injured in the accident.
Narayana Reddy was first taken to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Tadipatri and later shifted to the GGH in Anantapur as his condition worsened.
The scene in Venkata Reddy Palli village was heart-wrenching, with the family and relatives in deep shock and grief. The police have registered a case and sent the body for postmortem at the GGH.
Meanwhile, villagers have raised concerns about the reckless driving of tractor operators on narrow roads, alleging that speeding tractors often cause accidents in the area.
