23-year-old woman working for a food delivery agency sustained severe head injuries after jumping off a moving MMTS train to escape an alleged sexual assault attempt on Saturday night.
The incident took place shortly after the train departed from Alwal station while she was travelling from Secunderabad to Medchal, the police said.
The woman was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Doctors have confirmed that she is out of danger. Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered a case and launched an investigation.
SP Railways, Secunderabad, Chandana Deepthi, stated that multiple teams are working in coordination to apprehend the suspect at the earliest. She visited the survivor at the hospital and enquired about the incident.
Condemning the incident, social activist and Prajwala co-founder Sunitha Krishnan expressed concern over women’s safety on public transport.
“I am aghast that a woman sitting in a ladies’ coach had to jump off a moving MMTS train to escape sexual assault. I request the Telangana DGP and Women Safety Wing to consider deploying She Teams in all ladies’ coaches of MMTS, especially after 6 pm,” she urged.
