Three people, including a young couple, were killed in a road rage incident on Bheemili road near Radisson hotel in Visakhapatnam late on Monday night.
The victims have been identified as Prudhiraj (28) and his wife Priyanka (21), both from Rayagada town in Odisha state. Prudhiraj was working as a site engineer in a private firm. The other person killed in the accident was M Manikum (25).
Police said that six youths had consumed liquor and were going in a car towards Yendada from Sagarnagar. The driver of the car lost control resulting in the car mounting the road divider and ploughing through the other and knocking the bike on which Prudhiraj and Priyanka were riding. The couple was killed instantaneously.
After knocking down the bike, the car rammed a tree and came to a halt. One of the youths travelling in the car, Manikum, was also killed in the accident.
Police said that the six youths were going in the car driven in a rash manner after consuming liquor. Just before the accident, they had picked up a quarrel with some people at Jodugullapalem and snatched their mobile phones. The victims complained to the police about the car number.
The police found liquor bottles in the ill-fated car. Two youths travelling in the car were also injured in the mishap and they were admitted to the KGH. However, three youths fled the scene.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
