A tense situation prevailed on the Sri Krishnadevaraya University campus in Anantapur as a group of students opposed the unveiling of the statue of former chief minister Late YS Rajasekhar Reddy on Wednesday.
Raptadu MLA Topudurthi Prakash Reddy and Hindupur MP Gorantla Madhav unveiled the statue amid vehement opposition from the students.
The students and the police jostled for some time at the place leading to a tense situation. The police dragged the opposing students and whisked them away to the police station.
The students’ unions have been opposing the unveiling of statues of political leaders on the University campus for the last few months.
