In the Vijayawada Parliamentary Constituency, only 59% of the 2.67 lakh eligible rural households have received water connections through the Jal Jeevan Mission over the past five years.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivnath highlighted this issue in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, citing the previous government’s negligence for the lack of progress and calling for regular maintenance audits of the water tap connections provided under the scheme.
MP Sivnath criticized the previous administration for failing to maintain quality standards in the Jal Jeevan Mission.
He pointed out that due to this negligence, the drinking water supplied has become contaminated, leading to health issues. He reported that around 300 people in the NTR district suffered from diarrhoea after consuming the contaminated water, with fatalities occurring in A Kondur and Jaggaiahpet areas. The MP expressed concern over the growing fear among residents regarding the adverse health effects of the contaminated water.
