The comments made by JSP chief Pawan Kalyan against the volunteer system in the State sparked a controversy on Monday. The volunteers took to the roads and demanded that PK take back his words and tender an unconditional apology for his baseless allegations. Meanwhile, YSRCP minister Ch Venugopala Krishna came down heavily on Pawan Kalyan for his inappropriate comments.
The volunteers strongly objected to Pawan Kalyan’s comments that volunteers were collecting details of single women and widows and giving that information to anti-social elements. Protests were held at various places across the State.
I&PR Minister Ch Venugopala Krishna termed Pawan’s comments ‘outrageous’. “The comments insulted women and women volunteers across the State and PK should tender an apology to all the women. The system of volunteers is well recognised across the country. People see volunteers as members of their families and respect them. The people will not forgive Pawan for his baseless comments,” said the minister.
Planning Board Vice-Chairman Malladi Vishnu said that Jana Sena chief Pawan was speaking with a disturbed mind, and strongly condemned PK’s derogatory comments on the volunteer system. “If all the people are happy with the services provided by the volunteer system, why is Pawan making baseless allegations? The secretariats and the volunteer system, established with the aim of Grama Swaraj, has become a model for the country. Even Prime Minister Modi has praised the system. The volunteers served the people risking their lives during the Covid pandemic,” he said and demanded an unconditional apology from Pawan.
MP Nandigam Suresh said Pawan was barking like a stray dog. “PK is mentally disturbed and is talking like a maniac. People like PK are dangerous to society and the State. Even after the people defeated him in both the seats he contested in 2019, PK has not learned from his mistakes. PK is acting like a TDP office boy,” the MP alleged. Pawandi made such inappropriate comments like a psycho and sadist, he added.
MLA Velampalli Srinivas said that the people across the State were praising the volunteers for their dedication right from the beginning. He criticised Pawan for hiding in his farmhouse during Covid. “Most of the volunteers are women and disrespecting them is highly objectionable, which shows he has no respect for women. Pawan should apologise unconditionally to the volunteers,” said Velampalli.
