Civil Supplies Minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao expressed the YSRCP’s preparedness to face elections at any given time. He exuded confidence in the party’s ability to secure more seats compared to the previous election.
Speaking to media persons in New Delhi on Thursday, the Minister said that the YSRCP had consistently confronted elections under the direct leadership of their party, without forming any alliances. He further confirmed that the YSRCP intends to contest the 2024 elections independently.
Highlighting the mismanagement of the Civil Supplies Department during the previous Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s government, the minister accused the former administration of pushing the department into a staggering debt of Rs 20,000 crore. He alleged that this substantial amount was diverted towards the Telugu Desam’s ‘Pasupu-Kumkuma’ welfare scheme. Minister Nageswara Rao underscored the Jagan government’s efforts in clearing the debts and effectively restoring the department’s functioning.
The Minister commended the Jagan Mohan Reddy government for alleviating the difficulties faced by farmers during grain procurement and ensuring fair support prices, even for wet grains. He highlighted that the Jagan government extended the ration to 1.46 crore people, surpassing the central government’s distribution by an additional 60 lakh cards.
Consequently, he appealed to the central government to extend assistance to these cardholders. Minister Nageswara Rao also mentioned that the NITI Aayog has recommended support for this cause, expressing hope for a positive response from the central government.
