Minister for Social Welfare Meruga Nagarjuna has said that the YSRCP will complain to the Election Commission on August 28 about bogus votes.

Talking to the media here on Sunday, he said that the YSRCP wants to ensure that there would be no bogus votes in the State and that the elections should be held in a constitutional manner.

The Minister alleged that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) after its debacle in the 2019 election enrolled over 60 lakh votes in the electoral roll in the State. The TDP under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu understood that it could not come to power if elections were held constitutionally and that is why it wanted to enroll over 60 lakh bogus votes.

Meruga Nagarjuna took strong exceptions to the comments made by former minister and TDP leader Nakka Ananda Babu on bogus votes.

“The TDP has also tasted a rout in local body elections including in the ZP and MP. The same election results will repeat in the 2014 Assembly and LS elections. Chandrababu Naidu will be defeated in Kuppam,” Minister Nagarjuna said.

The officials were given a free hand to weed out the bogus votes. Some bogus votes were deleted from the Vemuri constituency. However, with the fear of defeat in the 2024 election again, ex-minister Nakka Ananda Babu is spreading lies on the bogus votes, Nagarjuna criticized.

The Minister claimed that poverty has come down to 6 % from 11.5% in the state after YSRCP came to power.

MLC Appireddy, who was also present at the press conference, recalled that all YSRCP-supported candidates were elected in Kuppam defeating the TDP-supported candidates in the local body elections and exuded confidence that the YSRCP would come to power in 2024.
