The YSRCP, the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh, has announced its intention to introduce crucial legislation through Private Member’s Bills in the Lok Sabha. MP Margani Bharath, accompanied by ten MPs, will introduce the AP Reorganisation Amendment Bill-2023 seeking Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh. The move aims to shed light on the injustices faced by the State and garner nationwide attention.
Speaking to the media, MP Bharath stated, “During the upcoming debate on the no-confidence motion in Parliament, we will emphasise the injustices done to Andhra Pradesh and strive to raise awareness about our State’s plight. The AP Reorganisation Amendment Bill-2023, related to bifurcation guarantees, was previously introduced by our party’s parliamentary leader V Vijayasai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha. However, considering its financial implications, we have decided to introduce it in the Lok Sabha. This Bill will exert significant pressure on the Central government.”
In addition to the SCS bill, the YSRCP plans to introduce another Private Member’s Bill for the approval of Polavaram Revised Estimates. Under this bill, YSRCP Lok Sabha Party leader PV Mithun Reddy will seek approval for Rs 55,548 crore as per the revised estimates of the Polavaram project. MP Bharath emphasised that YSRCP is strategically utilising all opportunities in Parliament under the guidance of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to advance the state’s interests.
MP Bharath highlighted the importance of securing funds for the state and questioned the previous government’s efforts, stating, “We prioritise the state’s interests. Under the leadership of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, we have obtained Rs 10,000 crore in funds sanctioned by the Centre. Could Chandrababu Naidu secure such a substantial amount after the state’s division? YSRCP supports the Center based on issues and will lend support if the bill is beneficial for the country, but not if it causes harm.”
Referring to the AP Reorganisation Act, MP Bharath asserted, “We are now demanding a special package for the seven backward districts based on their per capita income. This could potentially result in Rs 1000 crores for each district. We will also urge for the inclusion of Waltair Railway Division and the establishment of the South Coastal Railway Zone, a bill that we plan to table soon.”
