1.40 lakh Ganesh pandals will be installed in city

The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) is estimating that 1.40 lakh Ganesh pandals (mandapas) would be established in the city this year. The idol installation starts on September 7 and immersion procession would be conducted on September 17.
On Monday, the BGUS held a press meet at Press Club in Somajiguda. BGUS president G Raghava Reddy said that when the organisation started in 1980, only 1,400 idols were installed in the city. In the previous year, 1.25 lakh pandals were established. This year the number would be increased to 1.40 lakh as associations and groups have increased in the city.
All the Road Transport Authority (RTA) offices would provide vehicles for immersion with specific requests from BGUS. These vehicles would be charged at the government prescribed rates. He said that people should intimate the pandal details to police through police official websites. Officials would establish 253 Ganesh Action Teams (GAT) with 10,500 workers for sanitation works.
A total of 100 statice and 150 mobile cranes would be arranged at around 50 baby ponds and 20 major ponds.
Raghava Reddy thanked the Chief Minister of Telangana for giving free electricity to every pandal. The CM assured that special budget would be allocated for providing infrastructure. “For the last 10 years, no CM has spoken with us. But CM Revanth Reddy has spoken with us and given assurance for smooth procession on Ganesh procession this year”, he said.
The GHMC assured for repairs of main and interior roads and pruning of trees and other works. He said that the BGUS office is open 24/7 for sorting out any issues. The mandap organisers may contact the office or over phone through 040-24740044.
