The Telangana Government has successfully brought back 106 TS students and civilians from Manipur to Hyderabad. The students and civilians were stranded in Manipur due to the extreme law and order situation caused by a conflict between local communities.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao took a special interest in the matter and arranged a direct flight from Imphal to Hyderabad to bring back the 72 students and civilians.

The remaining 34 are expected to reach Hyderabad by evening. The operation was coordinated by a special working group formed by Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari, DGP Anjani Kumar and the round-the-clock control room in the DGP office.

The students studying in NIT, IIIT, JIMS, Manipur Agriculture University and distressed civilians, including a one-month-old baby, with parents hailing from the Bhaisa town of Nirmal District, were safely brought back to Hyderabad.

The Telangana Government bore the relocation expenses and arranged for the students to be sent to their hometowns.

At least 54 people died as a result of the violent clashes between Hindus and the PMO that erupted on May 3. The clashes occurred after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the state’s 10 hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

The Telangana Government’s proactive operations and efforts have been highly appreciated.
