The SEB officials seized 13 tonnes of ration rice while being transported illegally in a lorry at Nersugudem village in Jeelugumilli mandal in the district.

SEB inspector Manikanta Reddy told the media here on Monday that on a tip off the SEB officials conducted checking of vehicles. They found 13 tonnes of ration rice being transported from Telangana state to Kakinada port in lorry illegally.

After confirming that the rice was ration rice, the police held the two persons. The SEB officials informed the seizure of a huge quantity of ration rice to Tahasildar Srinivas and VRO Bullabaiah. In the investigation the police understood that the ration rice was being illegally transported from Aswaraopet in Telangana state to Kakinada port. The seized ration rice is worth Rs 1.95 lak, the SEB inspector said.
