ELURU: Superintendent of police D Mary Prashanthi said that 131 KGs of cannabis was seized from July 16 to July 31 in Eluru district at various places. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, she said that 8 cases were registered, 42 ganja smugglers were arrested and 131 KGs of ganja seized in Koyyalagudem, Jangareddygudem, Eluru 3 town, Eluru Rural, Nuzvid and Agiripalli police station limits from July 16 to July 31. A strict vigil has been laid on the accused in the ganja smuggling and rowdy sheets are being opened against those who are involved in ganja smuggling, the SP said. She said that ‘Parivartana-Pravartana’ is being organized in the district through which awareness is created among people on the ill-effects of country-made liquor consumption. She said that the district police also prepared an action plan to provide counseling in de-addiction centres to those who are addicted to liquor or drugs. “All steps taken and vigorous efforts are being made to make Eluru district as ‘illicit-liquor free district’. The people of the district should cooperate with the police and officials for the same,” she said. SP Mary Prashanthi said that counseling should be given to students who are addicted to consuming ganja. The SP appealed to the people to inform 14500, 100 or 112 about the sales of drugs in the district. Additional SP (Admin) MJV Bhaskar Rao and other officials were present.
