14 rowdy sheeters expelled: CP

The crime rate during the year 2022 has reduced in the NTR district, in 2022 the cases reported were 15,329 against 17,174 cases in 2021. Cases of crime, grave burglary, murders, crime against women and bodily offences reduced and road accidents slightly increased this year, said NTR district Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata on Friday.

Addressing the media persons at the 2022 Annual press conference, the Police Commissioner said that crimes in the district decreased and the conviction rate increased by 78 per cent. However, road accidents in the district have seen a surge from 1133 cases in 2021, to 1360 in 2022 while 966 road accidents were registered in 2020. Identification and rectification of black spots, identifying accident time and increasing police vigilance and enforcement at those times, identifying the roads where accidents happen and taking appropriate measures to reduce the road accidents are being carried out in the district, said the Commissioner.

He said that the number of pending cases has come down in 2022, while 12,394 cases were pending by January 1, 2021, by December 30 the number dropped down to 7,767 cases, which is 37 per cent with the efforts in the court monitoring system. Bodily offences have also decreased, in 2021, there were 49 murders, and 41 in 2022. Similarly, 131 cases of physical assault were registered in 2021, and 100 cases were registered in 2022.

He said that 14 rowdy sheeters were expelled from the city and 135 new rowdy sheets were opened this year. Apart, the Preventive Detention act was imposed on five members involved in brewing arrack and 679 persons were bindovered in 611 cases this year.

Burglary cases reported in 2022 are roughly the same as in 2021, which are 238 in 2021 and 217 in 2022. While around Rs 9.43 crore worth of property was stolen, around Rs 7.99 crore was recovered in 2022. In 2022, the detection of criminals and recovery rate of stolen property has increased significantly, he said.

The commissioner said that due to visible policing, undertaking awareness programmes, efficient management of women police services, implementation of PD Act on offenders brewing arrack etc., the crime has been reduced in the district, the cases registered in 2020 were 16,277 and 17,174 in 2021 and in 2022 it reduced to 15,329.

The commissioner said that the crime against women cases registered in 2022 was 911, 81 per cent of cases have competed for investigation and 71 per cent of the accused were arrested and charge sheets were filed. While 79 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) were registered in the district this year, in 73 cases victims were lured by the accused in the name of love and marriage. As many as 46 rape cases were registered and, in 36 cases victims were lured by the accused in the name of love and marriage.

The Commissioner further said that during the year 2022, out of the registered 97 SC/ST atrocities cases in the district, in 87 per cent of the cases investigation has been completed and the accused were arrested.

As many as 103 ganja smuggling cases were registered in 2022 and 205 accused were arrested. Around 765 kilos of ganja were seized from their possession.
