The police seized 18 red sanders logs and arrested two red sander smugglers including the most wanted interstate smuggler Murugan.
SP Chakravarti told the media here on Monday that a police team led by CI Ramakrishna conducted a checking of vehicles on the Srikalahasti-Renigunta road at TN Palem village.
The police found a car and lorry were going on the road and on suspicion they stopped the vehicles. Two red sander smugglers P Murugan and SK Meghavarnam tried to flee after seeing the police but the police chased and arrested them.
The police found 18 red sander logs in the lorry worth about Rs 50 lakh. The red sander smugglers were following the red sander-loaded lorry as a pilot.
One of the arrested smugglers Murugan was a notorious red sander smuggler and he was involved in six cases in the task force police limited. He was maintaining relations with the international red sander smugglers. The SP announced rewards to the police team for arresting interstate red sander smugglers.
