District Collector P Prashanti has said that 21 villages in three mandals were affected by the Godavari floodwater in WG district.
In a statement here on Sunday, she said that 21 residential localities in Yelamanchili, Achanta and Narasapuram mandals were inundated by the floodwaters.
“The heavy flood to River Godavari has damaged 292.52 km of road of which 76.70 km is state highway and 214.82 km district highway. Paddy nurseries in 158.82 hectares in 121 villages, paddy crop in 1,963.12 hectares, plantain crop in 18 hectares, vegetable crops in 57 hectares, betel leaf crop in 25.50 hectares were damaged in the floods,” the Collector stated.
The Collector said that four relief camps were set up in the district and all needed facilities are being provided to them. She said that 133 pregnant women and 138 lactating women were shifted to safer places from the flood affected villages.
Collector Prashanthi said that 25 medical camps were set up to provide medical facilities to the flood victims in the relief camps. She said that five kg of rice, 1 kg red gram, a palm oil packet and 1 kg of potatoes were distributed to the flood victims who are in the relief camps.
She said that the five fire brigade teams were taking part in the relief works and 15 mechanised boats and eight country boats were pressed into service to shift the people living low-lying areas. She said that on Sunday itself over 90,000 water packets were distributed to the victims in the relief camps. A calf died on a snake bike in the district, she added. She directed the official machinery to be on high alert in view of the Godavari river flood and ensure that there would be no loss of life and property loss due to floods.
