The organs of a brain-dead patient have given a new lease of life to three persons.
A construction worker, Vallupu Sriramulu (23) hailing from Ajitsingh Nagar in NTR district, fell down while at work and sustained severe head injury. Locals and family members brought him to the Manipal hospital Vijayawada. He underwent a craniotomy surgery. However, there was no improvement in his condition.
Despite a series of treatment efforts and tests, Sriramulu was declared brain dead. With the consent of his wife Vasantha, father Edukondalu and mother Suseela, the family agreed for organ donation.
The organ donation was conducted abiding to Jeevandan rules, under the guidance of Chairman of Jeevandan Andhra Pradesh Dr K Rambabu and Hospital Director Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi. The liver and one kidney were transplanted to patients at Manipal Hospital Vijayawada and the other kidney was shifted to Vedanta Hospital, Guntur, for transplantation.
