NTR District Collector Dr S Dilli Rao has allotted 3.50 acres of land at Nunna of Vijayawada Rural mandal for constructing a new building for the Andhra Pradesh Residential School (APRS) for Minority Girls. At present, this school is being run in a privately rented building on the premises of Bhavanipuram Iron Yard in Vijayawada on a payment of Rs.2 lakh per month.

The APRS for Minority Girls, established in Vijayawada in 2003, has a student strength of 520. At the time of the inauguration, the school was situated at the APSRTC Staff Training Centre at Vidyadharapuram. Later, it was shifted to a privately rented building on the premises of Bhavanipuram Iron Yard in Vijayawada.

As many as 200 girl students of classes V to X hailing from various districts are studying in the school and due to lack of sufficient facilities there, the APREI Society is not filling all seats. Also, the students are afraid at night times as there was no security for them. Though there are security guards for the school, the rented building has no compound wall.In this situation, the Andhra Pradesh Residential Educational Institutions Society (APREI) authorities wanted to construct a permanent building for the Minority Girls’ school.

They approached NTR District Collector Dr S Dilli Rao, who was an old student of APRS, Simhachalam in Visakhapatnam. The Collector enquired about the vacant lands available. He learned that about five acres of land in R.S.No.370/1, 2, 3 was acquired to distribute house sites for the poor in 2006. As the land was not sufficient for the total number of beneficiaries, the district authorities allotted alternative lands for house sites.

As per the request of the APREI Society, the Collector sought a detailed report and design from Vijayawada Rural Mandal Tahsildar B Sai Srinivas Naik recently. At present, the land is vacant, so the Collector asked the Tahsildar to allot 3.50 acres in R.S.No.370/1 and 370/3 for constructing the AP Residential School for Minority Girls at Nunna. Also, he directed the Revenue officials to take further action regarding land allotment for the purpose.

Following the directive of Collector Dilli Rao, Tahsildar B Sai Srinivas Naik submitted a report and a design. Later, the school authorities visited the land at Nunna and expressed their willingness to construct a permanent building there.
