Three persons were killed and five others were injured when a three-storeyed building collapsed at Ramajogipet near Collector’s Office here in the wee hours on Thursday.
Police said the building suddenly caved in, killing three persons including two siblings. The deceased were identified as Chotu (30), belonging to Bihar state, Saketi Anjali (15) and Durga Prasad.
Saketi Rama Rao, Saketi Kalyan, Kommishitti Shiva Shankar, Satika Rojarani, and Sunnapu Krishna were injured in the mishap. The NDRF and fire brigade personnel took up rescue operations and extricated the bodies and the injured from the debris.
The deceased siblings Anjali and Durga Prasad were the children of Rama Rao and Kalyan and both were injured in the mishap and were undergoing treatment in the KGH. The deceased Anjali was studying 9th Class at a private school while her elder brother Durga Prasad was studying Intermediate. She celebrated her birthday on March 22.
The neighbours told the media that they heard a loud noise. When they came out of their houses they found the building collapsed. They saved some people from the collapsed building. The NDRF and fire brigade personnel struggled for three hours to extricate the injured persons from the debris. The injured were admitted to the KGH. The building is said to be 40 years old and was in a dilapidated state.
RDO Hussain Saheb told the media that the condition of the injured is stable. As many as 10 people lived in the collapsed building, he said. DCP Sumit Garuda visited the collapsed house and monitored the rescue operations.
