Cyberabad police busted three inter-state betting rackets during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The operation, which was carried out by teams from Rajendranagar, Balanagar and RGIA police stations, resulted in the arrest of seven bookies and the seizure of Rs 1.84 crore in cash and bank accounts. The police also confiscated 36 mobile phones, three laptops, one tablet and a Jio router.
The arrested bookies were running their operations through several online betting apps such as Vajra777.com, Cricket Live Guru, Bet 365, MPL, and more. They were accepting bets from punters across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka states, with transactions being made through PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm, among other methods.
The main bookies who were providing access to sub-bookies and punters are absconding and the police are on the lookout for them. Three criminal cases have been registered against the accused under the Telangana State Gaming Act.
The Cyberabad police have issued an advisory, warning people about the dangers of online gambling and urging them to be cautious of mobile apps such as Radhe exchange, Cricket live Guru, Bet 365, and others. The police have also advised people to be vigilant about the possibility of cyber theft of personal and banking data, which could lead to unauthorised money transfers and blackmailing
