Minister for Civil Supplies Nadendla Manohar has announced that 32 lakh metric tonnes of paddy have been purchased so far in the State. The Minister participated in a meeting organised by the rice millers here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, he stated that the Government had procured over 32 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from more than 5.21 lakh farmers. A total of Rs 7,522 crore had been disbursed, with Rs 7,508 crore credited to the bank accounts of farmers within 24 hours of the purchase.
The Minister mentioned that over 30,000 lorries and about 37,000 hamalis had been involved in the paddy procurement process across the state. For the first time, the paddy purchase was carried out through WhatsApp, he noted.
Earlier, Minister Nadendla Manohar held a meeting with private godown operators to enhance the efficiency of storage, transportation, security, and management of agricultural produce in the state. It was decided to
install Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras at every godown to monitor storage and security through technology.
The Minister also reiterated the Government’s commitment to promoting the use of green energy by installing solar panels on the roofs of each godown.
