Heavy rain lashed Krishna district on Wednesday, thanks to the low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal. Over 35.33 MM of rainfall was registered in the district. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the intensity of the low pressure and surface areas will affect Krishna and NTR districts.
In the wake of the cyclone threat, the farmers of the two districts are a worried lot. They have expedited paddy harvest. Paddy procurement has begun in these districts and the farmers are afraid that the crops may get wet if it rains in the coming days.
According to the Krishna district administration, 35.80 mm of rainfall was registered on Wednesday. Diviseema region witnessed heavy rain in the morning. Koduru, Avanigadda, Nayayalanka, Mopidevi, Machilipatnam, Penamaluru, Kankipadu, Vuyyuru, Pamarru and other mandals also witnessed heavy rain.
Koduru mandal recorded the highest rainfall of 7.60 mm, followed by Challapalli (7.20 mm), Avanigadda (6.80 mm), Nagayalanka (6 mm), Mopidevi (3.20 mm), Ghantasala (2.60 mm), Machilipatnam (2.2 mm) and Guduru (0.2 mm). For the past two days, Krishna district has been registering an average rainfall of 1.5 mm. On Tuesday, 27.30 MM rainfall was recorded, officials said. Farmers are in a dilemma over commencing the paddy harvest and drying the paddy grains. Many farmers in East Krishna have started paddy harvesting and drying their paddy grains on roads.
