Four persons were burnt alive when two lorries collided head-on at Dharmavaram village in Prathipadu mandal in the wee hours of Friday.
Police said that two lorries collided on the national highway in which the two drivers and two cleaners of the vehicles were burnt alive. One of the lorries was going to Visakhapatnam from Yerravaram in the Kakinada district with the sand load.
The lorry veered off the road, mounted the road divider, and fell into the other lane. The container lorry which was going on the other lane collided with the sand-laden lorry.
Flames erupted immediately after the collision resulting in drivers Vinod Kumar, Jannu Shiva Naga Malleswara Rao, cleaners Radhe Shyam, and Kali Peddiraju being burnt alive.
The drivers and cleaners were stuck in the cabin resulting in them being charred alive.
SI Sudhakar registered a case and shifted the bodies to the Kakinada GGH for post-mortem examination.
