In yet another case of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) students taking ill, a total of 53 pupils in KGBV in Muttharam madnal were shifted to hospital after they experienced heavy coughing and breathing difficulties on Sunday evening.
“Students fell ill, experiencing cough and breathing difficulty. The school authorities quickly transported them to the Peddapalli district hospital,” district officials said.
According to a duty teacher, an alarming situation arose when three students reported severe coughs around 6 pm. The teacher alerted the principal when more students started exhibiting similar symptoms. Within 10 to 20 minutes, the number of affected students had risen significantly, prompting the teacher to take all of them to a nearby hospital. After a medical examination, local doctors referred the students to Peddapalli Hospital.
District Medical and Health Officer K Pramood Kumar stated that besides cough and breathing difficulties, the student’s overall health was stable. They were admitted for observation. Kumar also ruled out food poisoning as a cause, explaining that if the students had consumed toxic food, they would have experienced vomiting and diarrhoea, which was not the case.
The Information Technology Minister D Sridhar Babu, who visited the hospital, said that the health condition of the students is stable. He visited the government hospital in Peddapalli after receiving information that students had fallen ill due to inhaling toxic air. He spoke to the children receiving treatment and offered them encouragement.
The Minister said that the government would continue to provide better medical care until the students’ health improved.
He noted that the primary reason for the student’s illness was identified as toxic air from the dumping yard located next to the school. He directed the Collector to immediately relocate the dumping yard to another location away from the school area. Since the incident, 20 doctors and 20 nursing staff have been providing quality medical services to the students at
The Minister was accompanied by District Collector Koya Sred Harsha, Revenue Divisional Officer B Gangayya, District Medical Health Officer Dr Pramod Kumar, District Hospital Superintendent Dr Sridhar, and other officials.
