District Collector G Ravi Nayak has asked the district officials to prepare an action plan to host the 5K Run on August 19 in all constituencies as part of the voter awareness programme. The run would be organised in Mahabubnagar, Jadcherla and Devarakadra on the day with the slogan “I vote for sure”.

Addressing the returning officials and district officials, Tahsildars and others through video conference from here on Thursday, he asked the Tahsildars at mandal-levels to hold meetings to decide the route for the 5K run. They should also sensitise all voters who are 18 years and above to enrol as voters, he said, advising the authorities to focus on Degree College students to create awareness among them to exercise their right to vote.

Mobile EVM vehicles have been pressed into service in the three constituencies as part of voter awareness programme on how to use the EVMs.

The average voter turnout in the last elections was recorded at 73.37% with Mahabubnagar registering 80.3% turnout, he said, asking the officials to strive to increase the turnout rate further.

The polling booths should have all amenities like drinking water, toilets, electricity and queue lines. Care should be taken to enrol voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years in large numbers, especially the girls. The Election Commission has provided an opportunity to register as voters every three months, he said. All polling booths have been given wheelchairs. The Tahsildars who are designated as Assistant Returning Officials should inspect routes leading to all polling booths and should submit their report, he said.
