Students in the Backward Classes Welfare Boys Hostel in Basara are depressed as they are being served worm-infested food daily. The complaints being made by students have been falling on deaf ears of the authorities.
The students showed that they had found worms and insects in the food served to them. The boys complained that they were being served worm-infested food every day.
The students narrated that they were going to bed hungry often as they were unable to eat the food infested with worms. The authorities in the hostel, the student said, were not even providing potable water to them. Only rotten vegetable curries were being served to them.
The boys said that the authorities have been threatening to send them out of the school and the hostel if they dared to reveal unsavoury happenings in the hostel. The boys were too frightened to talk to anyone about their plight.
Meanwhile, students in a high school in Haliya town in Nalgonda district staged a protest that they were served worm-infested food at the midday meal. The students staged a sit-in after the school principal allegedly threatened them with dire consequences if they protested. The students complained that the school authorities were serving food infested with worms and insects for the last one week.
