Kolusu Parthasarathy, Minister for Information and Public Relations and Housing, has assured that the State government will support the flood victims in all ways. Speaking to the media at the Vijayawada Collectorate on Wednesday, the Minister said that the Chief Minister has been staying at the Collectorate for four days and monitoring the situation. He said that the city could be saved from serious damage due to the vast experience of CM.
He said that 6.44 lakh people in the State were affected by the floods and crops were damaged in 20 districts. He added that 3.74 lakh acres of paddy and 47,543 acres of horticultural crop were damaged.
In erstwhile Krishna and Guntur districts, paddy was damaged to a maximum extent. The Minister said that 3,678 km of roads have been damaged across the State.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner have been provided to the flood victims in a systematic way. In a few instances, food, drinking water, biscuit packets and milk were provided to the flood-affected areas from the Vijayawada from Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium. A senior IAS officer was in charge of overseeing the relief operations of all the 179 secretariats. Everyone from the CS to the lower level officers swung into action to take up relief measures.
On Wednesday, six lakh food packets and three lakh litres of milk were distributed, besides five lakh biscuit packets, said the Minister. He said that 182 tankers are supplying drinking water to the people and steps have been taken to clean the mud inside the houses with fire engines.
He said that in Vijayawada city, around 4,000 sanitation workers have taken up sanitation work and for this purpose, officials and staff have also been specially deployed from other districts. Minister Parthasarathy said that 158 medical camps are being set up and medical services are being provided to the people in view of the possibility of epidemics if sanitation is not proper.
