Budameru flood situation serious Officials advise Moparru, Puttagunta villagers to vacate houses

The situation in Krishna district due to the Budameru Rivulet flood is quite serious. Heavy rainfall has been registered in the upper catchment area of the Budameru. Currently, around 36,000 cusecs of floodwater from Budameru has already submerged various areas in Vijayawada city and is moving towards Kolleru Lake.
The Irrigation Department reports that more than 10,000 cusecs of Budameru floodwater is expected to reach the district.
Residents are advised to follow evacuation orders and stay in touch with local authorities for updates and instructions. The situation remains fluid, and continued vigilance and cooperation with emergency services will be crucial for managing the impact of the flood.
Due to the Budameru flood, areas such as Moparru of Pedaparupudi mandal and Puttagunta of Nandivada mandal, are experiencing rising flood levels.
Significant flooding has occurred from the Enikepadu Under Tunnel (UT), affecting agriculture, horticulture, and infrastructure. Many roads, including routes from Gannavaram and Hanuman Junction to Gudivada, are cut off.
District Collector DK Balaji and Superintendent of Police (SP) R Gangadhara Rao have visited flood-affected areas like Moparru and Puttagunta. They assessed the situation and interacted with locals to gauge the impact. Both officials have advised residents to evacuate their villages. Collector Balaji has instructed Revenue officials to evacuate the entire village of Moparru and move people to rehabilitation centres.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector Balaji assured that the government is prepared to support the affected populations. Rehabilitation centres have been set up, and the administration is providing food, drinking water, and medical assistance. The Collector added that further flooding is expected, and urged residents to move to safe places.
Meanwhile, SP Gangadhara Rao has directed police officials to be vigilant and assist in forcibly evacuating people from flood-prone areas. He emphasised the need for coordination among various departments for flood relief measures.
