The police arrested 62 persons in connection with the violent incidents which took place on August 4 at Angalla village near Punganur and the search is on for the main accused Challa Ramachandra Reddy alias Challa Babu.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, DSP K Lakshmi said that so far 62 persons who were involved in the violent incidents have been identified and arrested. The rest of the accused would also be arrested, she said.

The DSP said that TDP Punganur constituency in-charge Challa Babu’s PA Govardhan Reddy was held. Based on the information given by him, the police registered cases against Challa Babu, who is the accused number one in the case.

DSP Lakshmi said that Challa Babu held a meeting with the TDP workers a day before Chandrababu Naidu’s programme at Rompicherla. He told the TDP workers that despite Naidu’s Punganur visit not figured in the schedule, Challa Babu proposed to bring Chandrababu Naidu to Punganur. He stoked the TDP workers to resort to violence if the police did not permit it.

Challa Babu also told the TDP cadres that the police might prevent Naidu’s convoy and the police might even open fire but they should take Naidu to Punganur, the DSP said adding that five FIRs were registered against Challa Babu. The police produced the arrested TDP leaders and activists before the media.

Meanwhile, former minister and TDP polit bureau member Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy visited the TDP activists who were injured in the violence incidents and undergoing treatment in the GGH in Madanapalle.

Talking to the media he alleged that anarchy has prevailed in AP since Jagan Reddy assumed charge as CM. He questioned whether the Punganur and Tamballapalli MLAs have special rights. He also questioned whether it is Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy rule or a democratic regime. The YSRCP attacked the TDP cadres but cases were being registered against the TDP activists, he slammed. Nallari Kishore Reddy and Amarnath Reddy were also present.

TDP ex-MLA Suguna, Chandragiri constituency in-charge Pulivarthi Nani, and Muralai also visited the injured TDP activists in the GG in Madanapalle on Sunday. Suguna alleged that the police falsely implicated the TDP leaders and activists in the violence cases.
